Frozen Custard

Posted by simplistic at 08:08 PM on October 5, 2007.

Party Planner, a reality show from Discovery Travel and Living, is one of my favourite shows nowadays. It's a show about creating a great party and how you can be very creative with your party whether it's a small party or a big one. I've got great ideas and tips from the show. Eventhough I'm not gonna have a party real soon, it's fun and exciting to know how to make a great party or just a little gathering.

There's this one episode where it's a 6-year-old girl birthday party. The party planner, David Tutera, decorated the little girl's living room with carousel horses and baloons. He also made a great 2 tier carousel cake. My most favourite part was when he visited Shake Shack, a burger and ice cream counter in NY, to learn how to make a knock out ice cream soda. It sounds really simple but it looks great and really delicious. I was drooling all over when I saw him drinking his own ice cream soda.

There's no big secret to make an ice cream soda. Basically, it's just a soda, they used rootbeer, and ice cream. However, they didn't use ice cream they used frozen custard instead. It contains more eggs and it was slowly mixed so there's less air inside which makes it realy creamy.

So then, I was determined to make a frozen custard and make myself my own ice cream soda. I went to my computer straightaway to find the best frozen custard recipe that I could get. There were many options I found. Then, I decided to make the most simple recipe I got. It contains milk, eggs, sugar, salt, whipped cream, and vanilla. I bought all the ingredients and made exactly like the recipe said. It was good at first but then the mixture didn't look like I expected it to look. It was thick but it wasn't too thick. And the eggs didn't disolve thoroughly. Yah well, I knew it's gonna be a fail one but I still continued to finish the directions. It's all done now and it's in the freezer. I just hope that in the morning the mixture will turn thick and creamy, which I dont think it'll be.

My Bitter Frozen Custard

Posted by simplistic at 11:46 AM on October 6, 2007.

I tried my frozen custard first thing in the morning. It looks lovely. I thought i did it. But then it tastes bitter. I think I put too much vanilla essence. I put 1 tbsp like it's told in the recipe. However, I think I should have used vanilla syrup for the flavor. Anyway, it's a good try. The texture was good. It just had a lack of creamy texture. I should've mixed it more and used blender instead of egg beater.

Lawyer Stupidity

Posted by simplistic at 07:55 AM on October 8, 2007.

Lawyer: "Was that the same nose you broke as a child?"
Witness: "I only have one, you know."

Lawyer: "This myasthenia gravis -- does it affect your memory at all?"
Witness: "Yes."
Lawyer: "And in what ways does it affect your memory?"
Witness: "I forget."
Lawyer: "You forget. Can you give us an example of something that you've forgotten?"

Lawyer: "How far apart were the vehicles at the time of the collision?"

Lawyer: "What happened then?"
Witness: "He told me, he says, 'I have to kill you because you can identify me.'"
Lawyer: "Did he kill you?"
Witness: "No."

Lawyer: "The youngest son, the 20 year old, how old is he?"

Lawyer: "Were you alone or by yourself?"

Lawyer: "You were there until the time you left, is that true?"

Lawyer: "So you were gone until you returned?"

Witness: "He was about medium height and had a beard."
Lawyer: "Was this a male or a female?"

Lawyer: "I show you Exhibit 3 and ask you if you recognize that picture."
Witness: "That's me."
Lawyer: "Were you present when that picture was taken?"

Lawyer: "Do you know how far pregnant you are now?"
Witness: "I'll be three months on November 8."
Lawyer: "Apparently, then, the date of conception was August 8?"
Witness: "Yes."
Lawyer: "What were you doing at that time?"

Lawyer: "You don't know what it was, and you didn't know what it looked like, but can you describe it?"

Lawyer: "Doctor, how many autopsies have you performed on dead people?"
Witness: "All my autopsies have been performed on dead people."

Lawyer: "Were you acquainted with the deceased?"
Witness: "Yes sir."
Lawyer: "Before or after he died?"

Lawyer: "And what did he do then?"
Witness: "He came home, and next morning he was dead."
Lawyer: "So when he woke up the next morning he was dead?"

Back from holiday

Posted by simplistic at 07:25 AM on October 26, 2007.

I am back from my holiday. I actually prefer not to call it a holiday though coz it didn't feel like it. Anyway, I spent like a week or so with my boyfriend's family. We went around Jakarta first. My boyfriend is not from Java, he's from Sumatra so Jakarta is quite foreign for his family.

Then we came back to my hometown by car. It was a good trip but it's also very tiring. When I got home, I slept for 12 hours straight. I felt like I'm not that fit anymore. I should have exercised more.

I'll upload some of the pictures from the trip and the holiday itself. It turned out beautiful since the pictures were taken by XLR camera.
